Cleaning Leaves Out of the Gutters – You’ve Gotta Do It

image

Today was my semi-annual day to climb up the big ladder and, while trying not to wet myself, blow all of the junk out of the gutters. We’ve got two huge old Water Oak trees on the corners of our home, so we get about a million of those tiny little leaves in the gutters.

We also filled up the pallet compost bin I built last spring. It gave us some really good compost a couple weeks ago.

If you decide to get up on your roof, make sure you’ve got grippy shoes and your roof isn’t too steep. I actually don’t recommend you do this. It’s not safe.

The Chickens Have Been Busy

image

Our little flock is still going strong. I think that maybe they haven’t started molting yet because they’re only in their first year. Any wiser chicken owners out there know why hens would still be going strong with no artificial light source?

Two Days of Eggs

image

I just washed and stored our eggs from the last two days. As I laid them on the counter to dry off, I noticed how varied the colors are. Some have hints of red, some are nearly white, and some are speckled. It’s been so long since I opened a carton of grocery store eggs that I can’t recall if store bought eggs normally have this much color diversity, but I appreciate it either way. I almost wish I knew which hens were laying which eggs, but that would take a lot of interrupting them as they laid all day.

Happy Hump Day!
